Purple Velvet

I decided to make the most of the daylight to take some more outfit photos. I obviously had to do a velvet themed post this winter (it's almost compulsory if you're a fashion blogger) and I'm very happy to show this top as it's such a lovely colour and style. It used to be my mum's but I cropped it and I'm wearing it the other way around as I wasn't a fan of the neckline.  You've seen my bargain skirt before here and of course my favourite pair of heels. I'm so glad I managed to pick them up last year for only £8 in the sale! I've seen quite a few variations in magazines and in the shops at the moment such as this Topshop pair so my impulse buy wasn't so bad after all. The necklace was a present. I don't actually own many necklaces (it's not really something I buy) so most of my jewellery seems to be a gift. The knit jacket is something I'm selling in my shop. It really is the comfiest item of clothing ever...no exaggeration.

Homemade dress

I've finished all of my exams now so I've got a week of literally doing nothing until I start A2- so happy! Plus, the sun's out which makes it so much better (22 degrees next Saturday apparently). 

So, this is the dress that I made recently. I'm really pleased with it because it's quite a complicated design. The fact that there's loads of different sections (8 to be precise) on the top means that it's actually quite a difficult design to make compared to some of the other things I've created and it's definitely good practice trying out something new. I saw this dress in Topshop recently and decided that I'd make a variation of it (the fabric was from Southall and only cost £2 per metre!) rather than spend more money. Usually when making my clothes, I just really quickly and easily make a pattern using my mannequin but this design actually required a level of skill to work it out. It's actually really interesting figuring out how this sort of style is made (well, it is to me anyway!). Anyway enough of me talking about sewing stuff. (By the way, please excuse my white legs in these photos. I'm not wearing any tights and my legs haven't seen the sun in about 9 months).

Purple

First of all, look at my fancy reflection skills! I keep seeing this everywhere so I thought I'd try it out myself. Onto the actual outfit...I made this dress on Saturday afternoon. This is actually the first thing I've properly made from scratch (apart from my Textiles final) since Christmas. I'm the biggest procrastinator ever so rather than wasting time attempting but not actually doing work, I decided this dress would be a better use of my time. After I made it, I actually felt an increased motivation to work harder for my schoolwork. Perhaps I've discovered the key to preventing procrastination: do something you've been wanting to do for a while and then focus on your work afterwards - it works, trust me!.

So, I  made the dress using some fabric I got as a present for my birthday. The print is so lovely and I really like how it contrasts with the sleeves (which were made from some white curtain netting). I'm actually really pleased with the dress (unusual for me). It reminds me of the ones you can get from Yayer or Choies (but instead I saved about £40 of my money by making it myself).

Wardrobe Wednesday...

Remember when I went thrifting last week? Well a few of you asked me to show you what I actually bought that day, not just the kooky things I tried on... Ask and you shall receive, my friends!

The first thing is something you've already seen, but probably didn't realize at the time. Figured it out yet? That's right, it's the "80's fuchsia" vest from my last post! I pretty much died when I saw it; the colour is amazing and so is the cut- like one of the Golden Girls (Blanche, of course) went on a safari. Too much detail? Fine, I'll move on...

The second thing I bought was a vintage Coro necklace... Isn't it pretty? I love the red resin leaves and how they look wrapped around the neck. And the best part? This little collectable was only $3.99! Not that I'm bragging or anything ;)

Finally, I left Value Village with a delightfully pleated purple maxi (say that five times fast!), which you'll be seeing more of tomorrow... Get this, I was actually planning on going to American Apparel to get another maxi when I found this one for a fraction of the price ($7.99)! I can officially die a happy girl.

And although I didn't buy these shoes at VV that day, I wanted to show you my latest footwear acquisition nonetheless. I bought these BCBG sandals at Winners, get this, ON SALE! A sale on sale priced merchandise; it doesn't get much better than that. I practically skipped out of the store, that's how happy I was. And in case you were wondering, I scored these bad boys for only $40. Life is good, my friends...
