Sometimes the most unexpected backdrops turn out to be the best, as was the case with this construction site that my friend Jerry coaxed me onto. Despite the nagging feeling that I was doing something wrong the entire time (B&E, anyone?), it was actually one of the funnest shoots I've ever done — Rain, lightning, jagged edges and all. xx

{Style} Rainbow Bright...

Yesterday was Thursday, today it is Friday — and let me tell you friends — we, we, we so excited... And in case you're wondering if I really just made a Rebecca Black reference, well yes, yes I did — Still want to be my friend?

Soooo, what's everyone getting up to this weekend? Mr. AiF and I are road tripping to BC to see my family (hurray!), and as soon as I decide which seat to take (last one, I promise) the good times are gonna roll... Happy weekending, friendlies!

Purple

First of all, look at my fancy reflection skills! I keep seeing this everywhere so I thought I'd try it out myself. Onto the actual outfit...I made this dress on Saturday afternoon. This is actually the first thing I've properly made from scratch (apart from my Textiles final) since Christmas. I'm the biggest procrastinator ever so rather than wasting time attempting but not actually doing work, I decided this dress would be a better use of my time. After I made it, I actually felt an increased motivation to work harder for my schoolwork. Perhaps I've discovered the key to preventing procrastination: do something you've been wanting to do for a while and then focus on your work afterwards - it works, trust me!.

So, I  made the dress using some fabric I got as a present for my birthday. The print is so lovely and I really like how it contrasts with the sleeves (which were made from some white curtain netting). I'm actually really pleased with the dress (unusual for me). It reminds me of the ones you can get from Yayer or Choies (but instead I saved about £40 of my money by making it myself).

{Style} Full of Monet...

One of the things I love most about this blouse is that it has a certain Monet, "Water Lilies" quality to it... The art history minor in me is beaming at this mass-retail nod to Impressionism's finest, yet all I can think of is that scene in Clueless where Cher tells Tai that Amber (or "Ambular," if you prefer) is "full of Monet" (aka good looking from afar, scary up close). Hopefully the term doesn't actually apply to this blouse, because I don't care for the term "fashion victim" nor "ensembly challenged"... Zing! Ok, ok, I'll stop with the Clueless references, I promise... As if.  xx

Hello and happy Monday, friends! As you read this, I'll be doing one of three things: 1. sleeping in; 2. visiting my new local library; or 3. watching an old, black and white movie with Mr. AiF at the museum.... Ooooh yeah. In case you couldn't tell, I have the day off and I'm pretty dang excited. Not to rub it in or anything, but I'm probably doing an it's-Monday-and-I-don't-have-to-work happy dance this very moment. {Style} Black & Gold...

Can we just take a moment to talk about this skirt? I bought it at The Pretty Secrets popup shop a couple weeks ago and have been obsessed with it every since. I mean come on, it's gold, pleated and all kinds of awesome, am I right? Plus it's vintage Smart Set, which totally appeals to the 13-year-old 90s child inside... Hashtag sigh.
