Gatsby

This was my outfit from a party on saturday. It was 1920's Gatsby themed! My dress isn't completely in theme but it's gold and has a big bow (plus it was £6) so I thought why not!. The photos were taken at my friend's house so they don't have the usual background and unfortunately some of them are a bit blurry (I really should have taken some more of the back and the lovely bow). In total my outfit cost £10 (my dress is from ebay and so are my shoes).

How is your week going? What do you think of my outfit?

A brand new outfit for you today. I bought the skirt on ebay for £4 but it's originally from Motel . I'm really pleased with it overall (nice pattern, very versatile and fits well - what more could I ask for!?). The heels were another ebay purchase (this time for £5). They're quite unique in their style with the buckle strap around the sides and the gold heel, plus they fit perfectly which always helps! Finally, the top is one of my Mum's old tops that was given to me (which I love the colour of!).

What do you think of my outfit? Have you made any ebay purchases recently?

Blue and White

I'm off to Kingston open day on Saturday which should be interesting. It's my first open day as I've only got 3 Unis to go and look around in total (... since I've decided to do an Art foundation course somewhere local) and am going to be visiting UCA soon as well. Is anyone looking at/have been to these unis? or have done an Art Foundation course? I'd love your opinions! All of this thinking about the future kind of makes me forget what I'm doing now though... (I should probably do some coursework after this bit of procrastination).

Onto my outfit, and I'm wearing a dress I bought on ebay over a year ago. I adjusted it a bit and decided to take the sleeves off in the end as I felt they looked a bit too baggy. It's quite a summery dress (obviously not the weather for it) but I wanted to show you something completely unseen.

What do you think?  How is school/uni/work going?

Vintage Blazer

While I was out in London on Saturday, I also did a bit of vintage shopping and bought this blazer. I've been looking for a blazer for a while now and after browsing continuously on ebay I felt it would be better to actually try it on before buying one. I really like the one I chose and it's going to be perfect for staying warm in the colder months (especially since my previous winter coat is now ruined by oil paint - anyone know any magical removal tricks?). I'm wearing my blazer here with my paisley dress (£2 from ebay) and my boots (also from ebay - you can buy them here).

Beaded top

Hello all! I got back yesterday from a holiday to Mexico, hence the 2 week disappearance. I had a lovely time there - mainly lazing around on the beach and eating enormous amounts of food...what's not to love!? and we even went a bit cultural and visited Chichen Itza (the seventh wonder of the world... only 6 more to go now!), Coba temple (we were able to walk climb up this to see the view of the jungle) and swam in the Gran Cenote (a sort of underground cave with water). Unfortunately I never actually got around to taking any outfit posts while I was there (something which I regret) so have no Mexican/holiday outfits to post. However, I've missed blogging a lot so decided to jump right in with another outfit post today.

I've worn this skirt a few times already on my blog (most recently here, or way back here and here) as it's definitely one of my favourites. I've made a lot of use out of it since I bought it last summer and I'm sure I'll use it a lot in the future as well. I paired it with just an old plain white t-shirt. I'd quite like to experiment with plain t-shirts a bit more as often I just opt for a buttoned up shirt, and I've already started coming up with a few ideas of ways to style it. I'm also wearing a vest/waistcoat/cardigan thing which has beaded flowers on it. I was given it by my Mum when she no longer wanted it. I saw it in my wardrobe the other day and decided it was time for it's blog debut!
How was your summer? What is your favourite thing about my outfit?

Return of the boots

I hope everyone's having a good week. I've been dumped with a load of coursework so I better make this quick and then catch up on TV continue with my work.
Firstly, the dress is one I've had for a long time and only tend to wear during the summer, as as you can see it's quite strappy and light. The print is really lovely though and is definitely something that deserves to be worn more often. I've paired it with a DIY mesh top. I'm pretty sure everyone now has come across the tutorial on how to make your own top out of a pair of tights. Well, if you haven't, it's really easy and definitely a must do (just cut out a triangle in the middle and cut off the ends of the legs and you have yourself a top!). It's definitely a good way to make use out of your old tights or those which are unusable due to ladders and holes (I have plenty of these!). My top's not that neat as I did it quite roughly but if you're a bit of a perfectionist then if you cut the edges slightly neater you can avoid any messy parts. I'm currently deliberating over whether to cut a pair of my Bora Aksu tights (see here) in this way. What do you think? I have my ebay boots on again. I'm so happy I made the purchase a few months ago as I've made a lot of use out of them and I'm still finding them useful even in the warmer weather.  I don't normally mention my jewellery in my posts as often it's just something I've found in my drawer that I've collected at some point in my life, no change in this post. I've been wearing beaded necklaces a lot recently, simply because they're super easy to wear and go with absolutely anything.

What do you think of my outfit? Is anyone heading off to any festivals soon? (so jealous if you are!)

Back to monochrome

I've been trying to spruce up my outfits with some colour recently (in the hope it might make the weather warmer - evidently doesn't work) but today I opted for a simple black and white outfit. I've shown most of these items on my blog before (my shirt here and my skirt here) but my bag is something new. I bought it at a vintage fair a while back (£15, I think), thinking that it would be perfect for school. It's not actually big enough though so I haven't used it as much as I had hoped over the last year but I still don't regret the purchase. My skirt is from ebay. I've unfortunately managed to get oil paint all over it (skillful hiding going on here) which is impossible to get off so it's only really wearable when I'm wearing a jacket or with a bag now. I always seem to get paint all over my clothes (not unexpected as I'm an art student) but I still don't seem to have learnt my lesson and continue on wearing my usual clothes every day. My shoes have to be one of my best purchases at £25 in the Office sale. Although £25 is a fair amount (especially compared to Primark/New Look shoes) they're really comfy and have and will last a long time.

What do you think of my outfit? What have been your best purchases?

AS Textiles Final Exam

First of all, I'm sorry for my absence recently. The reason for my lack of blogging is my textiles and art exams that have been going on this week. I've had piles of coursework to get through and exams to prepare for. Luckily, today I finished my textiles exam (yay!) which feels like such a relief. It was an 8 hour exam (actually quite a short time when you have a whole garment to make) over 2 days. I thought I'd show you my final piece and see what you all thought. Originally, all the fabrics were seperate (so I dyed the blue fabric and layered the black pvc over the top, I then cut out all of the squares and sewed around the edges). Creating the fabric for the body of the dress probably took the longest since I had to sew around every single square and I had originally fitted my pattern pieces to a mannequin at home so it doesn't fit completely well, so I had to make a few time-costly alterations. It went fairly well (a few mistakes but I managed to sort them out) but what with me being a perfectionist, there are plenty of things I would like to improve on it. By the way, a bit of context for you, the theme of the whole project was 'Covert and Obscured' and my design is based on various observations and critical studies that I did in my sketchbook (Gareth Pugh and Fyodor Golan). Anyway, I hope you like it and wish me luck for my next two days of art exams starting tomorrow!

Black Leather

Wasn't the weather so nice today? It was actually considerably warm for England (no jacket required). I'm hoping the sun is going to last (fingers crossed) but looking at the weather forecast, it seems as if it's going to be slightly cooler the next few days. I'm really (so so much) excited to go and see Two Door Cinema Club this Saturday though, so all is good!
These fake leather shorts were a recent purchase from ebay (£3.99). They're originally from H&M so you obviously can't expect them to look quite as good as the proper vintage versions you can find but I don't think they look too bad. I'm also wearing a shirt I received from my grandma and the necklace was bought on holiday. Last year I broke my sunglasses - it was devastating - and I've been searching for a replacement pair for a while. I find it really difficult to find sunglasses that actually suit me so I picked out a pair pretty much exactly the same as my old ones but from River Island (my previous ones I had found in a vintage market). I'm still not completley sure about them yet, (hence me resting them on my head rather than wearing them properly) but hopefully as we go into summer I'll get used to them.
What do you think of my outfit? Are you doing anything this weekend?
