When temperatures drop, I like to add bright layers and beautiful accessories to the mix to dull the pain of yet another winter. Pops of red, plaid and leather galore is the name of the game this time of year, so here are a few of my current favourites (including these delicious boots from Dr. Martens). 5 outfits for Winter

I decided to create some Autumn/Winter themed outfits for you. Most of the outfits are from Motel (...literally drooling over some of the items they have at the moment!) with a few Topshop things thrown in. 

I've really been liking velvet in unusual colours recently and paired with a black leather skirt it can create a really edgy look. I'd never be brave enough to wear this fur jacket myself but if I was styling someone else, I'd definitely pick this out. 

PVC and metallic items are much more risky but I definitely think if styled in the right way it can look really stylish and not tacky (I love these images).

I love this dress so much and it's simplistic style is just perfect. I'd love to style it with something that contrasts this such as this printed bomber jacket and then finished off with this bag and gold chain necklace. 

I really like the subtle tartan items that are around at the moment, such as this skirt. It would go perfectly with this long sleeve crop top and the Topshop boots (which I love so so much!).

I couldn't really do a autumn/winter themed post without a tartan dress could I!?. I still don't actually own anything tartan so I always feel a surge of jealousy whenever I see someone else wearing it! I really want to buy a hat at some point (fingers crossed I'll actually find one that suits me!)

I was lucky enough to be included in FASHION Magazine's winter issue, sporting my take on holiday-wear with this flirty Loft 82 dress. To be honest, I would gladly take shimmering gold fabrics, patent heels and pretty pearls any day of the week, but during the holiday season they feel all the more alluring... Kind of like crushed velvet and eggnog, but I digress.

Purple Velvet

I decided to make the most of the daylight to take some more outfit photos. I obviously had to do a velvet themed post this winter (it's almost compulsory if you're a fashion blogger) and I'm very happy to show this top as it's such a lovely colour and style. It used to be my mum's but I cropped it and I'm wearing it the other way around as I wasn't a fan of the neckline.  You've seen my bargain skirt before here and of course my favourite pair of heels. I'm so glad I managed to pick them up last year for only £8 in the sale! I've seen quite a few variations in magazines and in the shops at the moment such as this Topshop pair so my impulse buy wasn't so bad after all. The necklace was a present. I don't actually own many necklaces (it's not really something I buy) so most of my jewellery seems to be a gift. The knit jacket is something I'm selling in my shop. It really is the comfiest item of clothing ever...no exaggeration.

{Homemade Holiday} Rosette Ring DIY

In the spirit of last week's animal ring holder, I thought I would put together an simple gift idea to accompany it — et voila! The rosette ring was born. It's the perfect little add-on to give a girlfriend or pop into a stocking, and it even functions as a last-minute gift if you're in a pinch (oh who am I kidding, when you're in a pinch). So if you want to make a rosette ring of your own, here's what you'll need:

Supplies:

 - Adjustable rings (available at any craft or jewelry supply store)

 - Rosette cabochons (mine are vintage, but there are lots to choose from on Etsy!)

 - Jewelry glue

Glue your cabochons to the base of the ring, pressing down firmly to adhere. After about an hour of dry time, you've got yourself a simple, yet oh-so cute gift to brighten up someone's holiday season... It's as easy as that!   Box up your rings with a pretty gift tag to add some oomph, then just stand back and humbly admire your gift-making prowess — you've earned it. xx

Winter Blues

The only thing that's been going through my head the last couple of weeks is my portfolio for art foundation and my textiles final piece. I'm so excited to start making my final dress and show it to all of you (in hopefully a fantasy themed photoshoot) at the end of December. It's quite hard to believe that all of this work for the past 6 months or so has been leading up to just 12 hours of actual making work, but I hope it paid off! As for the portfolio, I've got to start putting all of my best work together for my application as soon as possible so I've been racking my brains for original ideas. What have you all been doing recently? 

Normally I don't show outfit posts that I've actually been wearing the day I post them but I genuinely did wear this today! The dress is from Topshop which I bought years ago. It's a great simple piece to layer with though the colour can be a bit tricky. I made the jumper last year and I showed it in this post when it snowed (Have you heard the rumours about the snow that's coming to the UK?). I find it quite stressful wearing tights and having to match the right pair to an outfit (other people must surely feel the same?) and I've ended up becoming a bit boring and have been lacking courage to go for anything over than a simple black/grey pair. I'm sure you are all fed up of seeing my studded boots by now...I've already started thinking about shoes for Spring though! I definitely feel like my styling has been pretty bad recently and I'm not very happy with my outfit posts (and as I'm trying to save my money for Christmas time I've not had the chance to buy anything new) so I'm hoping my current wardrobe boredom will cure itself soon and that I don't bore all of you in the meantime!

Remember that trip to the mountains I referenced a couple weeks back? Well these photos were taken at the a lodge we were lucky enough to stay in. The weather was beautiful, the food and drink was plentiful, and we even saw our first fox, who was good enough to strike a pose for us... All in all, it was a good trip. And what's a good trip without proper attire, am I right? This plaid shirt/turtleneck combo screamed 'lodge-wear' to me, and when paired with a preppy blazer, it became the perfect hot-cocoa-by-the-doc, book-reading-by-the-fire look — Oh the power of fashion. xx

Gatsby

This was my outfit from a party on saturday. It was 1920's Gatsby themed! My dress isn't completely in theme but it's gold and has a big bow (plus it was £6) so I thought why not!. The photos were taken at my friend's house so they don't have the usual background and unfortunately some of them are a bit blurry (I really should have taken some more of the back and the lovely bow). In total my outfit cost £10 (my dress is from ebay and so are my shoes).

{Wardrobe Wednesday} Lips Rings

This Wardrobe Wednesday features a save or splurge component which doesn't quite apply to me because — let's face it — I had to go be all greedy and buy both. To be fair, I ordered the CC Skye version online before I knew Forever 21 carried a fun, Lulu Frost-inspired version for a fraction of the price. Woe is me. Regardless, I felt the need to have both. Because really, after shelling out over 100 big ones for a trend item, what's five more.

The verdict? Despite the aforementioned trend (read: fleeting) nature of the design, I actually much prefer the CC Skye version. It's smaller, more streamlined and far more flattering to wear, translating to 20x more use than it's inexpensive counterpart... So on a cost-per-wear basis, the CC Skye version is actually a way better deal, right? Oh come on, humour me.

{Shopping} Three To Love

For those of us who view shopping as a competitive sport (you know who you are), there's no greater thrill than getting lost in a great online store... Sometimes that involves pajamas and ice cream in bed (who said that?), while other times it means copious amounts of links sent to your bff in the middle of the night for a second option. I recently got lost on the Harrods website, discovering new-to-me labels and old, drool-inducing favourites. Right off the bat, I fell in love with their Pinko, McQ Alexander McQueen and Just Cavalli offerings, dreaming up outfits (as one does) and building quite the wish list (don't tell Mr. AiF!). 1 year of blogging

It's my 1 year blog birthday! I really can't believe I've actually kept this blog up for so long. I was sorting through all of the blogs I was following the other day (there were a lot) and found that more than half of them were no longer running, so it makes me feel quite proud to have lasted this long. The weird thing is that I can't even remember why I started in the first place and I definitely never realised that blogging would become so addictive! It's also really nice knowing that so many people are interested in what I post and take the time to write such lovely comments. I decided to do a typical 1 year post with my best outfits from the last 12 months.
