{DIY} The Repurposed Necklace...

 photo IMG_9078_zps3ade417e.jpg

Last night I realized that it had been waaaay too long since I DIY'd (stupid work and life getting and, well, Netflix getting in the way), so I put my thinking cap on and ransacked the apartment for project ideas. After looking through a cramped jewelry drawer, I quickly realized that I have far too many earrings that go unworn, and — light bulb moment — why not turn some of those old baubles into a necklace?!

Like what you see? It's the easiest! Here's the drill:

The Supplies:

- Old earrings
- Chain
- Jump rings
- Tools

The Steps:

1. Detach all the components you plan to use from your earrings.
2. Take special care to remove all traces of the earring posts — Trust me on this one.
3. Collect all the pieces you plan to use and mock up where they're going to sit on the chain.
4. Attach your first piece at the centre of the chain using a small jump ring.
5/6. Continue attaching your components until the necklace is complete.

** Marvel at how easy this was and what a crafty-crafterson you are... You've earned it.

{DIY} Lulu Frost-Inspired Fruit Necklace...

 photo fruit_zps29f324df.jpg

Sometimes I fall in love with pieces that I just can't justify buying (seriously though, $215 for fruit?!), which is why DIY is a girl's best friend. One quick trip to the bead store and less than $15 later, I have a fruit necklace to call my own. It may not be as anatomically correct as the Lulu Frost version (is it me, or are those red corn on the cobs?), but it sure is cute... And now for the DIY!

 photo IMG_4396copy_zps2ed825de.jpg

- 16" of gold chain
- Fruit charms
- Jump rings
- Lobster clasp
- Pliers

 photo diy_zpsbb2ab762.jpg

Attach the charms to the chain using the jump rings, spacing them evenly across the front of the necklace. Once that's done, attach your lobster clasp and throw on that new necklace of yours... Easy does it.

{Closed Giveaway} Les Arts Plastiques...

 photo IMG_9011_zpscc29f3c6.jpg

When one of my favourite local jewelry designers asked to host a giveaway on the blog, I literally jumped at the chance. Every time I visit her at Royal Bison (aka the greatest local craft fair of all time), I leave with way more pieces than I anticipate (evidenced here and here) and tons of gifts for friends and family (she pretty much single handedly took care of my Christmas list last year!)

That's why I can't think of anyone I'd rather introduce you to than the lovely Alicia from Les Arts Plastiques. She was nice enough to send me this necklace to check out, and is even giving one away to a lucky reader! What a gal...

Want to enter? Here's what you've got to do:
  • Check out Les Arts Plastiques' shop & leave a comment telling me what your favourite piece is (include your email address so I can contact you)
  • Like Adventures in Fashion on GFC if you don't already do so
For extra entries:

Sometimes the best things in life are the simplest, but if you ask me, it's usually the simple things that could use the most jazzing up... Like this Zara sweatshirt, for instance. It's totally cute and wearable, but without those floral, beaded embellishments? Maaaajor snoozeville. It's amazing what a little detailing can do to elevate such a basic, nondescript item into a thing of beauty... DIY'ers of the world take note.

Happy weekending, friends! Whatever you guys get up to, I hope it's epic... xx

{Style} Coffee Run...

I'm pretty sure that when Lionel Ritchie sang about "Endless Love," he was actually talking about coffee... That's all I can say about that. In other news, how sweet is my new spiked necklace from Barefoot Contessa? I picked it up while in Vancouver over the holidays on a shopping date with Mr. AiF's lovely mom (hi Hilly!) and have pretty much worn it ad nauseum ever since. What can I say, it was love at first sight.

Happy Wednesday, friends! xx

{Style} For the Love of Plaid...

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Mornings are often a struggle for me, so sometimes I literally just have to throw things together in hopes that they work. This, dear reader, was one of those outfits. I knew I wanted to wear this shimmery top the second I saw it peeking through a heap of clothes (aka the state of my closet right now), and the pants were selected solely because they were within reach. The bar is low, my friends. From there, I figured I didn't have much to lose, so I threw on this blazer and hoped for the best. The end result? Let's just say it's somewhere between secretary chic and Caddyshack... I'll take it.

{Style} Shooting Arrows...

When you can't shop, the next best thing is definitely sweet gifts in the mail from your sponsors... That's why I was oh-so happy to receive this Shooting Arrow necklace from Blackbird, one of the coolest jewelry shops around. I love their simple designs, rendered in geometric shapes with just the right amount of boho chic. Come to think of it, their stuff is like the perfect marriage between House of Harlow 1960 and Alex + Chloe, two lines I adore and wear on the regular... The result? Jewelry heaven.

So tell me lovelies, what's your fave jewelry line? I wanna know! xx

Wardrobe Wednesday: DIY Edition

Photobucket

I've always admired Tom Binns and his amazing baubles, but it wasn't until last week that I realized I could recreate his Slap Dash collection with nothing but a bottle of nail polish and a cheap necklace... Mind blowing. Anyway, I quickly became obsessed, checking out practically every DIY post to ever grace the Internet - Hey, better late than never, right? This one from Make Me Sparkly was really helpful and clear, and made me seriously itch to try out this DIY for myself...

I figured Forever 21 would be my best bet for a simple, inexpensive rhinestone necklace, and low and behold, I was right... $17 later I had both a necklace AND the perfect shade of nail polish for my little project. Fist pump. Two coats of nail polish (and several bouts of lightheadedness) later, I had a Tom Binns-inspired necklace of my very own... God bless the Internet.
